Megalopelma Enderlein View in CoL View at ENA

Megalopelma Enderlein 1910a: 165 View in CoL . Type-species, M. planiceps Enderlein View in CoL (orig. des.).

M. cellularis Edwards 1940a: 458 View in CoL . Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Lectotype ♀, NHM (here designated).

( Figure 26 View FIGURES 21–30 )

Notes. The type series included four female, of which two syntypes are at the NHM, both in good condition. The specimen choosen as lectotype has the following labels: “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 10.6.1938.” // “Brit. Mus. / 1938-682” // “SYN- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with light blue border]” // Megalopelma / cellularis Edw. [hw] / F.W. Edwards 193[pr]9[hw” // “ SYNTYPE / Megalopelma / cellularis [hw] / det. J.E. Chainey, 1996” // “BMNH(E) # / 258003”. The paralectotype is numbered BMNH(E) # 258004 GoogleMaps .

M. fraudulenta ( Williston) 1896: 263 , Pl. VIII, fig. 18 (wing) ( Phthinia ). Type-locality: St. Vincent, W.I., Winward side. Lectotype ♂, NHM (here designated).

( Figure 27 View FIGURES 21–30 )

Notes. The type series included two male syntypes, of which only one syntype is at the NHM. Its labels are: “SYN- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with light blue border] // “Windward side / St. Vincent, W.I. / H.H. Smith. ” // “ W. Indies. / 1907-66.” // “ 1500 feet ” // “ Phthinia fraudulenta [hw] / Williston. [pr]” // “BMNH(E) # / 257996”. The specimen is in bad condition, with one wing, a small part of the thorax and part of the abdomen remaining. The other wing is glued to one of the labels. The poor condition of this specimen may prevent the adequate recognition of the species .

M. platyura Edwards 1940a: 459 View in CoL . Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Lectotype ♂, NHM (here designated).

( Figure 28 View FIGURES 21–30 )

Notes. Edwards (1940a) refers, in the description of this species, to “ 5 ♂, 2 ♀ ” without designating a type, of which a male labeled as “type” and two additional males and three females properly labeled as syntypes are at the NHM. One of the specimens has a “Type” label and has the male terminalia dissected and mounted on a separate sheet; the others have both, syntype and paratype labels (which is inconsistent with the publication). The specimen with the “Type” label was choosen as lectotype, the others as paralectotypes. The lectotype labels are: “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 20.8.1937.” // “Brit. Mus. / 1938-682” // “SYN- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with light blue border]” // Megalopelma / platyura Edw. [hw] / F.W. Edwards 193[pr]7[hw” // “ SYNTYPE / Megalopelma / platyura [hw] / det. J.E. Chainey, 1996” // “BMNH(E) # / 257997”. The lectotype is in excellent condition. The paralectotypes are numbered BMNH(E) # 257998-8002 GoogleMaps .
