HERTWIGIA Dziedzickia 1885: 166 (preocc. Schmidt 1880). Type-species, H. marginata Dziedzicki (mon.).

Dziedzickia Johannsen 1909: 44 View in CoL (nom. nov. for Hertwigia Dziedzicki View in CoL ). Type-species, Hertwigia marginata Dziedzicki (aut.). SYNTEMNA, authors, not Winnertz.

D. absyrta Lane 1954a: 96 View in CoL , fig. 1 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Brazil, São Paulo, Salesópolis, Estação Ecológica de Boracéia. Holotype ♂, MZUSP.

( Figure 62 View FIGURES 53–65 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, a female allotype, two male and five female paratypes. The labels with the holotype are: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “HOLOTIPO [printed in black on a rose label with black border]” // BR-S.P.: Salesópolis / (Boracea) / 14-viii-1947 / E. Rabello & Trav. F. / & J. Lane ” // Dziedzickia / absyrta [hw] / det. John Lane 195[pr]2[hw]” / “BMNH(E) # 253820”. Despite the information in the original description that the type would be in the MZUSP , the male holotype and two male paratypes were at the NHM and had collection numbers, probably sent by mistake by John Lane himself, together with other material returned or donated to the London collection. The holotype and one of the male paratypes were returned to the MZUSP ( BMNH (E) # 253821/3) and one of the male paratypes were kept at the NHM ( BMNH (E) # 253822) .

B.M. 1927–63.” // [part of the abdomen and the male terminalia in a microvial]” // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “BMNH(E) # / 253842”. The paratypes are numbered (BMNH(E) # 253844-5), both from Casa Pangue, Chile, the male with the terminalia dissected and mounted to a pinned acetate sheet.

D. basalis Freeman 1951: 66 View in CoL , figs. 126 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Chile, Llanquihue , Casa Pangue. Holotype ♂, NHM.

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, a female allotype and four male paratypes, of which a male paratype ( BMNH (E) # 253838) from the type-locality is at the NHM .

D. cryptura Edwards 1941: 308 View in CoL . Type-locality: Brazil, Mato Grosso do Sul, Salobra. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 65 View FIGURES 53–65 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype and one female paratypes, both of which are at the NHM . The labels with the holotype are: “1.197” [pr]” // “ M. Grosso / Salobra / vii.1939 / Exp. C.Z.B.” // “ Brazil / J. Lane / B.M. 1939-636” // [male terminalia dissected, mounted on an acetate sheet] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // Dziedzickia / cryptura / F.W. Edwards 1939” // “ HOLOTYPE [pr] / Dziedzickia / cryptura / Edwards / det. J.E. Chainey 1996 [pr]” // “BMNH(E) / # 253811”. The distal half of the abdomen of the holotype was removed and is mounted with the terminalia. The female paratype ( BMNH (E) # 253812) and another identified specimen from the type-locality are at the NHM .

D. fiebrigi Edwards 1934: 364 View in CoL . Type-locality: Paraguay, La Cordillera, San Bernardino. Holotype ♂, NHW.

Notes. The type series included the male holotype (in the Viena Museum) and a male paratype at the NHM. The paratype at the NHM is also from the type-locality. Its labels are: “Fiebrig / Paraguay / S. Bernardino ” // “Para- / type” [printed in black on a rounded label with yellow border]” // “ HOLOTYPE / Dziedzickia / fiebrigi / F.W. Edwards 1934 ” // “BMNH(E) # / 253813”. The paratype at the NHM is well preserved and is not dissected. There are two additional specimens from Nova Teutônia identified as D. fiebrigi .

In Papavero (1978: 24) the type-locality is incorrectly written as “Lago Correntoso”. The original description and the holotype label agree it to be “Lago Gutierrez” .
