Comments. Currently the species is reported from Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica ( Eades et al., 2016), but it is evident that several of the determinations of the species since its original description have been erroneous and mixed in the type series there is more than one species. Gorochov & Cadena-Castañeda (2016) selected the specimens from Mexico as lecto- and paralectotype (deposited in Naturhistorisches Museum Wien ( NMW)), along with additional specimens collected in the Mexican states of Veracruz and northern Chiapas .
We now restrict the known distribution of this species to the Gulf of Mexico including the localities mentioned by Gorochov & Cadena-Castañeda (2016). The problem is that an extended distribution was assumed by two factors: the first is that analyzing the shape of the ovipositor apex and subgenital plate of the female syntype from Guatemala . It is actually G. beretka . The second factor is that the specimens studied by Barranco (2010) from Costa Rica are either erroneously identified or represent an undescribed species.
