Alexis & Delpont (1999) attempted to establish the genus “ Desfontainesia ” for nine species (Cetoniinae: Goliathini: Rhomborhinina), but they did not designate a type species. Hence, “ Desfontainesia Alexis & Delpont, 1999 ” is unavailable and must not be used.
Alexis & Delpont (2001) added a further species and validated the generic name with the statement “au nouveau genre Desfontainesia dont espèce type est Heterorrhina leopoldi Bourgoin ”. Hence, the genus must be attributed to Alexis & Delpont (2001).
