Type-species: Baryssinus marianae Martins & Monné, 1974 View in CoL (by original designation).

A key to the species of Neobaryssinus View in CoL and photographs of all the species were recently provided by Berkov & Monné (2010). Here we describe a new species that was reared from Lecythidaceae View in CoL . Two other species in this genus, N. marianae ( Martins & Monné, 1974) View in CoL and N. altissimus Berkov & Monné, 2010 View in CoL were also reared from the same plant family.
