Genus Pipistrellus

Taxonomic notes

Four subgenera of Pipistrellus ( Pipi- strellus Schreber, 1774, Hypsugo Kolenati, 1856 , Falsistrellus Troughton, 1943 , and Arielulus Hill and Harrison, 1987 ) were recognised by Corbet and Hill (1992). Sub- sequently, Arielulus was promoted to gener- ic status by Csorba and Lee (1999). Follow- ing Hoofer and Van Den Bussche (2003), Hypsugo is also considered here to be a dis- tinct genus.
