For synonymy see List of nominal species of Valgothrombiinae genera known as larvae.
Type species. Ottonia valga George, 1909 , by original designation.
Diagnosis. Larva. Scutum and scutellum with median ridge. Posterior part of scutum either convex medially or forming a three-lobed structure. Cuticle on scutum, scutellum and coxal plates may display a reticulate pattern. Dorsal setae, except for those arising on scutum and scutellum, situated on distinct plates. Coxalae either bifurcate or with 2–3 setules extending from the main shaft. Intercoxalae absent. Eupathidium on tarsus I placed on distinct protrusion (tubercle). Smilum, scopa and lophotrix absent. Tarsal claw formula 2-2-3. Claws of tarsi I–III with 2 subterminal lateral lateral spurs, i.e. tips are trifid.
Active postlarval forms: see Gabryś (1999, 2002) and Wohltmann and Gabryś (2006).
Distribution. Palaearctic, Afrotropics, Neotropics, Indomalaya.
Remarks. In V. tarnavense , two claws and an empodium are present on all tarsi in the drawing of Feider (1955, p. 68). In V. fluminis , a pair of intercoxalae is inserted between coxae II and III in the drawing of Michener (1946, p. 376). Both character states are incongruent with the generic diagnosis and need to be critically reappraised. For the time being both species are retained within Valgothrombium .
