Material: 1 specimen (NHM.2003.684), ‘ TAIWAN 2001’ station CD141, RV ‘Ocean Researcher 1’, 22º12.04'N 119º59.96'E, 1110 m; 24 November 2001. 1 specimen (NHM.2004.46), CP214, East Coast of Taiwan, N/ O 'Fishery Researcher 1' TAIWAN 2003, 24º28.59'N 122º12.66'E to 24º25.66'N 122º12.78'E, 490 to 1027 m; 27/08/2003, coll. TY Chan.
Remarks: This rarely recorded species is distinguished by its characteristically short fifth palp article (P5), half or less the length of P3, together with a heavy, downcurved proboscis. C. arcuata was previously known from the northeast Atlantic, off Nova Scotia and the Bahamas, and off Chile, at depths between 730 and 2200 m (vide Bamber & Thurston, 1995); the present specimens represent the first records from the north Pacific.
