Material: 1 specimen (MNHN­Py 1029), station CP53, East coast of Taiwan, N/ O 'Fishery Researcher 1', TAIWAN 2000, 24º15.7'N 122º11.6'E, 2620 m; 03/08/2000, coll. Bouchet, Richer­IRD & Chan.

Remarks: This is a large abyssal species belonging to the C. macerrima complex. C. cucurbita has only been recorded infrequently, from the north Atlantic, from south of Australia and in the Pacific, and at depths between 1300 and 4500 m.
