Bolbitis Schott, Gen. Fil. View in CoL pl. 14. 1834.

Bolbitis View in CoL has finely netted veins, dimorphic sterile and fertile leaves, and acrostichoid sporangia. In these characters it resembles Mickelia View in CoL , but it differs by: usually being terrestrial (vs. mostly hemiepiphytic); always having buds placed near the pinna apices (vs. buds lacking or placed at the pinna bases); and usually pinnatifid, tapering blade apices (vs. mostly conform or subconform; Moran et al. 2010a, b). Bolbitis View in CoL may also be confused with Lomariopsis View in CoL ( Lomariopsidaceae View in CoL ), which has free veins, pinnae articulate to the rachises, and green spores. Bolbitis View in CoL is a pantropical genus of about 50 species, with 12 species in the Americas ( Hennipman 1977, Moran 2016).
