Diagnosis. The species has an oval, strongly convex body and light brown dorsum. It is similar to E. dilaticornis sp. nov., but antennae are filiform (subserricorn in E. dilaticornis ) and parameroids of tegmen have a hooked denticle pointed ventrad.
Description. Holotype, male. Body hemispherical, TL/EW 1.1, very convex, covered with yellow suberect setae. Body yellowish-brown. Antennae gradually darkening apically, brownish-black in apical portion.
Head with distinct punctation, punctures separated by ca. 1.0 diameter. Eyes big, protuberant; head 1.8 X wider than interocular space. Antennae filiform, reaching basal 1/3 of elytra. Antennomere 2 and 3 of subequal lengths, antennomere 4 as long as antennomeres 2 & 3 combined, antennomeres 5–10 slightly shorter. Apical antennomere absent in the holotype. Palpomeres of maxillary palpi slightly widened.
Pronotum small, slightly convex, covered with distinct punctation, punctures separated by 1.0 (rarely 2.0) diameters, anterolateral corners almost rectangular, somewhat obtuse, projecting anteriorly; lateral margins straight; posterolateral corners somewhat acute; base of pronotum subtrapezoidal, with complete groove along basal margin; PW/PL 2.9. Scutellum relatively big, punctured as on pronotum, equilaterally triangular. Angle between pronotum and elytra not marked in dorsal outline.
Elytra oval, with distinctly explanate lateral margins, widest at the middle, punctation stronger than on pronotum, punctures separated by ca. 1.0 diameter; humeri well marked; EL/EW 0.9; EL/PL 5.4; EW/PW 2.0.
Legs moderately long. Hind tibial spurs well developed, dorsal one almost straight and as long as tarsomere 1, ventral one shorter than half length of dorsal one, curved.
Ventrite 1 with sparse setation in mesal portion, mesal keel on ventrite 1 absent, ventrite 2 with basal row of big punctures. Apex of tergite 7 unmodified. Apex of ventrite 5 with shallow emargination.
Sternite 8 (L 0.29, W 0.62) reduced, widely U-shaped; sternite 9 (L 0.50, W 0.49) consisting of paired subtriangular plates with a few apical setae, deeply emarginated on apical margin. Tergite 8 (L 0.96, W 0.55) moderately sclerotized, trapezoidal, with arcuate margin, bearing row of short setae on apical margin, with a pair of long apodemes diverging basally; tergite 9 (L 0.83, W 0.45) lightly sclerotized, apical portion small, with minute setae at apex, with a pair of long apodemes diverging basally. Tegmen (L 0.87, W 0.48) well sclerotized, parameres wide, sinuate, inwardly hooked at apices, apices pointed, two mesal processes present, shorter one is relatively wide, longer one is very narrow and distinctly shorter than parameres. Penis (L 0.62, W 0.10) well sclerotized, pala narrow and elongate, apical process evenly shorter than pala.
Female. Externally almost indistinguishable from the male, body relatively smaller, antennomeres not darkening apically. Prehensor tubular, relatively short (L 0.13), narrow.
Variability. Studied females were distinctly smaller than the only known male specimen. TL/EW of females 1.1–1.2 (1.1).
Measurements. Male (n = 1): TL 4.55, PL 0.75, PW 2.15, EL 4.05, EW 4.35. Females (n=10) TL 3.30– 4.40 (3.89), PL 0.60–0.80 (0.70), PW 1.65–2.40 (2.09), EL 2.90–3.80 (3.43) EW 3.00–4.10 (3.59).
Distribution. Sulawesi.
Etymology. Dedicated to Boris Büche (Berlin, Germany) who kindly sent the first author interesting scirtids from Sulawesi for identification.
