All specimens were provided with an additional red printed label: ‘ HOLOTYPE [or PARATYPE respectively] [sex] | Chalcophorella | ( Stigmatophorella ) | bagdadensis | wandalii subsp. nov. | David Frank det. III. 2020 [date handwritten]’.
Description of holotype. Well preserved ♁ specimen with all appendages. Length 26.00 mm, width 9.50 mm, length/width ratio: 2.74.
Body generally black, pronotum with four pronotal principal reliefs at apical third and several pronotal minor reliefs; basal third of elytra grey with silver metallic reflections and four black elytral principal and several elytral minor reliefs.
Head black with some mouth parts brown, sparsely punctate and pubescent. Antennae serrate from antennomere IV. Scape and pedicel black, punctate and pubescent. Antennomere II ca. 2× shorter than III. Antennomere III brown-black, IV–XI brown; III less triangular, V–X more triangular to trapezoidal, XI oval. Mandibles black; labrum dark brown, pubescent around border. Maxillae, labium and palpi labiales brown, palpi maxillaries dark brown, pubescent. Eyes large, oval. Frons 1.8× as wide as diameter of eye. Head impressed with medial sulcus, punctate, sparsely pubescent. Vertex finely punctate.
Pronotum 1.4× as wide as long, widest at mid-length, with rounded sides. Anterior margin arcuate with moderately protruding lobe, densely pubescent. Pronotal discal relief large, clearly bordered, black, very sparsely punctate, shiny, narrowest at apical quarter. Sides of pronotum with purple metallic reflections. There are four black, shiny, irregular pronotal principal reliefs at apical third with inner larger than outer. There are also relatively large, clearly bordered, black and shiny pronotal minor reliefs at basal half. Basal margin bisinuate, pronotal basal relief clearly bordered.
Scutellum small, black and shiny.
Elytra with several irregular impressions at basal margin of each elytron. Lateral margins very slightly serrate at apical quarter. Basal third grey with silver metallic reflections, very densely punctate to finely furrowed with short and recumbent pubescence. There are two black, shiny, irregularly oval elytral principal reliefs on each elytron. Outer margins of the outer reliefs are merging with sculpture of elytra. There are also several black, shiny, very irregular, smaller elytral minor reliefs on each elytron. Middle and apical third black, with sparse and irregular micropunctation mainly around suture. Elytral impressions irregular, grey-bronze with metallic reflections. Elytral ornaments small, irregular, grey-bronze, with inner shiny areas. Epipleura horizontal, black, punctate with very sparse, short and recumbent pubescence.
Ventral side black, with greenish metallic reflections. Hypomeron sparsely, irregularly and coarsely punctate, not shiny. Prosternum shiny, more densely punctate than hypomeron, punctures smaller than punctures on hypomeron, sparsely pubescent in punctation. Prosternal process subparallel-sided, 1.5× as long as wide, punctate in centre, sides smooth and nearly impunctate. Meso- and metanepisternum black with greenish reflections, sparsely, coarsely punctate, pubescent in punctation, more coarsely on sides than in centre. Abdominal ventrites irregularly punctate; punctures with recumbent pubescence; on sides larger than in centre.
Legs black, moderately densely and coarsely punctate, pubescent. Tibia with two apical ventral spurs, without carinae. Tarsi black with purplish and bluish reflections, pubescent.
Aedeagus length: 6.09 mm, width: 1.55 mm, length/width ratio: 3.93. Penis elongate, apex of parameres widely rounded ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 41–48 ).
Variation. Body ♁♁ (n = 12) length: 24.00–27.50(29.25) mm, width: 8.75–11.00 mm, length/width ratio: 2.62–2.74; ♀♀ (n = 8): length: (26.00)29.00–32.00 mm, width: 10.00– 12.50 mm, length/width ratio: 2.52–2.73. Amount of pronotal minor reliefs is variable but always in high amount and distinct. Shape of elytral ornament variable but never large. Aedeagus (n = 5) length: 5.91–6.55 mm, width: 1.50–1.55 mm, length/width ratio: 3.81–4.23.
Differential diagnosis. Chalcophorella (S.) bagdadensis wandalii can be distinguished from C. (S.) bagdadensis bagdadensis and C. (S.) bagdadensis quadrimaculata by high amount and large pronotal minor reliefs. For additional characters see Key to species.
Biology. Different locality labels of this species from Iraq state Pistacia khinjuk , Prunus (sect. Amygdalus ) sp. or Fraxinus sp.
Etymology. This species is dedicated to Wand Khalis Ali (Erbil, Iraq), an entomologist and collector of most of the type series, who kindly provided me with specimens.
Distribution. NE Iraq, NW Iran, S Armenia ( Fig. 49 View FIGURES 49–50 ).
Remarks. Cobos (1972) mentioned 2 ♁♁ and 1 ♀ of C. bagdadensis amarensis from ‘Khanzad, 10-V-1970)’. I found one male with the same locality data in MNCN and it belongs to C. bagdadensis wandalii .
All locality labels were translated from Arabic by Wand Kh. Ali.
