Type: — CHILE. VALPARAISO. Isla Robinson Crusoe (Más a Tierra): Expeditio suecica 1907-1909, Ins. Juan Fernandez. Masatierra [Más a Tierra], loco saxoso aperto ad Portezuelo , 23 August 1908 , C. J. F. Skottsberg 412 (lectotype [designated here] S-13-2920 ! [Image available at: http://herbarium.nrm.se/specimens/ S13-2920 ]; isolectotype GB-0105870!)

Notes: — The protologue of Margyricarpus setosus subsp. digynus ( Skottsberg 1914: 9) cited the following gatherings: ” Masatierra: Gay ! Philippi! (Herb. Vindob.) ” and ” Skottsberg! (nr. 412, in locis siccis, valle Colonial, herb. Upsal. ” We were able to locate two syntypes (Art. 9.6 of the Code) ( C. Skottsberg #412, S-13-2920 ) and ( C. Skottsberg #412, GB-0105870). We designate here the most complete specimen among the syntypes, viz. S-13-2920 , as lectotype of this name .

Upon analysing the evidence available, we concluded that M. dyginus merits to be recognised at the species rank. In addition to the bicarpellate gynoecium, which was duly pointed by Skottsberg, the leaf morphology is very distinctive. Margyricarpus dyginus has long and falciform folioles, and has a restrictive insular distribution, being endemic to Juan Fernández, Chile.
