Porphyrochroa longiseta View in CoL sp. nov.
(Figs. 9a–i; 18i; 20)
Diagnosis: P. longiseta sp. nov. differs from all other studied species due to the presence of three anteroventral spines on the hind femur. Is closely related to P. amazonica sp. nov. due to the presence of a ventral spine on the hind femur. It differs from the latter species due to the presence of many setae on the abdominal sclerites.
FIGURE 9. Porphyrochroa longiseta sp. nov., holotype male: a, Tergites 5–8, dorsal view; b, Sternites 5–8, dorsal view; c, Hypandrium, phallus, cercus and subepandrial sclerite, lateral view; d, Epandrium, lateral view; e, Ejaculatory apodeme, anterior view; f, Hypandrium, posterior view; g, Terminalia, lateral view; h, Cercus, dorsal view; i, Subepandrial sclerite, ventral view. Abbreviation: a cerc, anterior cercus; cerc, cercus; ej apod, ejaculatory apodeme; goncx apod, gonocoxal apodeme; hypd, hypandrium; p cerc, posterior cercus; ph, phallus; sbepand scl, subepandrial sclerite; ST, sternite; T, tergite; vpc, ventral projection of cercus.
Description. Male: body length 3.5 mm; wing length 3.1 mm.
Frons and face shiny black. Frons slightly narrower than width of anterior ocellus, subparallel sided, bearing two proclinate setae. Face slightly longer than frons and length about twice width of frons. Proboscis brown, length equal to height of head. Palpus brown, with one small and almost apical seta. Ocellar tubercle with vitreous red ocellus; two ocellar setae; two postocellar setae. Antenna with scape, pedicel and basal fifth of flagellum yellow, remaining segments brown; scape and pedicel medially verticillate; flagellum about four times longer than scape and pedicel combined. Postcranium shiny brown, with distinct brown setae and gray pruinescence; one pair of parallel vertical setae; postocellar setae distinct, arranged in complete single series with dorsal setae stronger. Gena and postgena with setae brown to black and sparse gray pruinescence. Thorax shiny brown, with conspicuous postsutural gray pruinescence. Thoracic setae: 6 slender ktg and long; 4 sctl; 3 aprn; prepm broken; 1 pprn; 1 acr; 4 dc; 1 spal presut; 1 spal psut; 2 ntpl; 1 pal. Legs yellow with brown tarsis; distal region of hind femur with row of strong ventral spines; hind tibia and hind basal tarsomere with long dorsal setae. All legs with short distinct setae. Wing hyaline with apical spot and inconspicuous pterostigma; anal lobe narrow; R2+3 rather curved ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 i). Halter with pedicel brown and knob yellow. Abdomen shiny brown, with metallic green luster in diverse light incidence angles. Sternites shiny brown. Tergites and sternites 5–8 with long setae in dorsal view (Figs. 9a; b). Tergite 7 with pair of posteroventral protuberances (Fig. 9a); tergite 8 with pair of narrow projections (Fig. 9a); sternite 8 wide, larger than former ones (Fig. 9b); sternite 7 inclined in lateral view (Fig. 9g). Terminalia: hypandrium with two long posteroventral setae and pointed apex (Figs. 9c; f). Epandrium projected posterosuperiorly with distal spiniform setae and long slender setae over entire apical region (Fig. 9d). Cercus elongate in lateral view, with apex inclined upwards (Fig. 9c); in dorsal view with convergent apex and with internal ventral downward projection (Fig. 9h); ejaculatory apodeme with three projections in anterior view (Fig. 9e); subepandrial sclerite elongate, with row of convergent spines (Fig. 9i).
Female: Unknown
Distribution: BRAZIL (Amazonas).
Type material: Holotype male: BRAZIL, Amazonas, P[ar]q[ue]. N.[acional] Jaú, Ig, Miratucu – Ig. do Gerlei, 01°57’00”S – 61°49’00”W, 23–28.vii.1995 / Arm.[adilha] Malaise, J.A. Rafael & J. Vidal / Holotype macho Porphyrochroa longiseta ( INPA). Paratypes: idem (4 male, INPA); BRAZIL, Amazonas, Pq. Nac. Jaú, Seringal, 27.iv.1995, Arm. Malaise, J.A. Rafael & J. Vidal (1 male, INPA).
Holotype condition: ocellar setae, prepm, acr and spal presut broken; left antenna without flagellum; left wing mounted on microslide in Canada balsam; abdomen within microvial containing glycerin. Microslide and microvial pinned attached to specimen.
Variation: one specimen without metallic blue or green luster on abdomen, but may have been lost due to storage in alcohol.
Etymology: from Latin longus = long, seta = setae. It makes allusion to the presence of long setae on the abdominal sclerites.
