Porphyrochroa grandis View in CoL sp. nov.

(Figs. 8a–i; 18h; 20)

Diagnosis: P. grandis sp. nov. Is closely related to P. pacaraima sp. nov. due to the presence of an anterior projection on sternite 7. It differs from the latter due to the presence of many setae, localized in the posterior region of the hypandrium.

Description. Male: body length 4.3 mm; wing length 3.9 mm.

Frons and face shiny brown. Frons slightly narrower than width of anterior ocellus, subparallel sided, bearing two proclinate setae. Face slightly longer than frons and about twice width of frons. Proboscis lightyellow, length equal to height of head. Palpus brown, with one small and almost apical seta. Ocellar tubercule with vitreous light-brown ocellus; two proclinate ocellar setae; two proclinate postocellar setae. Antenna with scape, pedicel and basal fifth of flagellum yellow, remaining segments brown; scape and pedicel medially verticillate; flagellum with sparse gray pruinescence and about four times longer than scape and pedicel combined. Postcranium shiny brown, with distinct brown setae and gray pruinescence; one pair of parallel vertical setae; postocellar setae distinct, arranged in complete single series with dorsal setae stronger. Gena and postgena with setae brown to black and sparse gray pruinescence. Thorax yellow, with conspicuous postsutural gray pruinescence. Thoracic setae: 4 slender ktg; 4 sctl; 3 aprn; prepm broken; 3 pprn; 1 acr; 4 dc; 1 spal presut; 1 spal psut; 2 ntpl; 1 pal. Legs yellow with brown tibia and tarsi. Hind femur with two rows of spines, one anteroventral and one posteroventral; hind tibia with four basal posteroventral spines and long dorsal setae; posterior basal tarsomere with long dorsal setae. All legs with short distinct setae. Wing brown in superior half with inconspicuous pterostigma; anal lobe slightly wide; R2+3 rather curved ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 h). Halter brown. Abdomen shiny dark-brown, with metallic green luster in diverse light incidence angles. Sternites shiny darkbrown. Tergite 7 with pair of distinct posteroventral protuberances (Fig. 8a); tergite 8 narrower than former ones (Fig. 8a); sternite 6 wide, with posterior sinuosity (Figs. 8b; c); sternite 7 smaller than 6 and 8 with long anterior projection (Fig. 8b); sternite 8 wide, narrower at base, with lateral anterior projection (Fig. 8b). Terminalia: hypandrium with two long posteroventral setae and row of many short setae in same region, apex bearing small (Figs. 8d; e). Ejaculatory apodeme with three projections in anterior view (Fig. 8f); epandrium clothed in long setae, projected posterodorsally (Fig. 8g). Cercus with one protuberace in lateral view (Fig. 8d); dorsal view represented as in Figure 8h. Subepandrial sclerite with base and apex with proportional sizes (Fig. 8i).

Female: Unknown.

Distribution: BRAZIL (Amazonas).

Type material: Holotype male: BRAZIL, Amazonas, Pres.[idente] Figueiredo, BR-174, Km-113 / 5- 9.iv.1993, F. F. Xavier / Holotype macho Porphyrochroa grandis ( INPA). Paratypes: BRAZIL, Roraima, Serra Pacaraima , Br-174, 04°27’04”N, 61°07’56”W, 800 m, 01–07.ix.1995, J.A. Rafael, A.L. Henriques & J. Vidal, Arm. Malaise (3 male, INPA); Xitei (Xidea), 02°36’24”N, 63°52’17”W, 20.ix.1995, L.S. Aquino, Arm. Malaise (3 male, INPA).

Holotype condition: prepm setae, acr and spal psut broken; left wing mounted on microslide in Canada balsam; abdomen within microvial containing glycerin. Microslide and microvial pinned attached to specimen.

Etymology: from Latin grandis = big. It makes allusion to the size regarding others species.
