Gasteruption huberi n. sp. ( Figs. 1g –h View FIGURE 1 , 13 View FIGURE 13 , 27d View FIGURE 27 )

Gasteruption sp. I : Macedo, 2009: 7 (cladistic analysis).

Etymology. The epithet for this species is in honor of Dr. John Huber, curator of Hymenoptera, Canadian National Collection of Insects.

Diagnosis. Differs from other Neotropical species by the combination of the following characters: propodeum with ill-defined areoles, almost smooth laterally ( Fig. 27d View FIGURE 27 ); metapleuron with a large smooth portion ventrally; mesepisternum almost smooth ventrally; mesoscutum punctulate to rugulose ( Fig. 13c View FIGURE 13 ); metacoxa striate ( Fig. 27d View FIGURE 27 ); occipital carina narrow dorsal and wider laterally ( Fig. 13b View FIGURE 13 ); ovipositor sheath longer than metasoma ( Fig. 13e View FIGURE 13 ); and fore wing discal cell absent in the female ( Fig. 1g View FIGURE 1 ), but petiolate in the male ( Fig. 1h View FIGURE 1 ).

Description. Female ( Fig. 13e View FIGURE 13 ). Length: 11.6 mm (n=1); ovipositor sheath length 0.90 × body length.

Head. Subtrapezoidal in dorsal view, wider than long ( Fig. 13a View FIGURE 13 ), punctulate; mandible pre-apical tooth distinct; malar space short, almost separated from gena; posterior ocellus inserted at the level of upper eye margin; occipital carina narrow dorsally and laterally ( Fig. 13b View FIGURE 13 ). Head length 1.14 × eye length; eye length 19.67 × malar space; distance from posterior ocellus to occipital margin 1.42 × distance between posterior ocelli; 1 st flagellomere 1.00 × as long as scape, 1.44 × as long as pedicel, 0.52 × as long as 2 nd flagellomere. Color: black, clypeus with anterior portion lighter than remaining, scape yellow brown, pedicel and 1 st flagellomere dark brown, remaining flagellum yellow brown.

Mesosoma. Propleuron imbricate; pronotal process distinct; pronotum imbricate, area between lobes rugulose to crenulate; mesonotum rounded in lateral view ( Fig. 13d View FIGURE 13 ); mesoscutum punctulate to rugulose ( Fig. 13c View FIGURE 13 ); mesoscutelum punctulate; mesepisternum imbricate, almost smooth ventrally; mesepimeron rugulose; metapleuron areolate, ventral region with a large smooth portion; propodeum with ill-defined areoles, almost smooth laterally, longitudinal carina distinct ( Fig. 27d View FIGURE 27 ); metacoxa finely striate. Mesosoma (excluding propleuron) 1.88 × as long as high; propleuron 1.62 × longer than its largest wide, 1.07 × pronotum length; metacoxa 2.70 × as long as wide; metatibia 4.45 × as long as wide, 1.36 × as long as femur, 3.07 × as long as 1 st tarsomere. Fore wing discal cell absent ( Fig. 1g View FIGURE 1 ) (present, but very reduced in male, Fig. 1h View FIGURE 1 ); hind wing with 3 hamuli, not equidistant. Color: propleuron and mesonotum black; pronotum black, with ventral lobe red brown; mesopleuron and metapleuron black dorsally and red brown ventrally; propodeum black near metasoma insertion, red brown in remaining portions; fore and middle legs with coxa black, trochanter, femur and tibia red brown, tibia with a yellow longitudinal stripe, tarsus yellow; hind leg with coxa, trochanter, femur and tibia dark brown, subbasal portion of tibia yellow, proximal half of 1 st tarsomere dark brown, distal half yellow, remaining tarsomeres dark brown.

Metasoma. Imbricate, 2.97 × as long as mesosoma; subgenital sternun notched, Y-shaped; ovipositor sheath 1.41 × as long as metasoma. Color: terga mostly dark brown, with posterior regions red brown; ovipositor sheath dark brown, with apex yellow brown.

Male. Similar to female; left hind wing with reduced petiolate discal cell ( Fig. 1h View FIGURE 1 ), which is absent in right wing; hind tarsus usually entirely dark brown. Geographic distribution: Jamaica. Material examined. Holotype, female ( CNCI): JAMAICA: Saint Andrew: Chestervale, 18.IX.1963, T . H. Farr. Paratype: JAMAICA: Manchester : Mandeville, 20. VI .1958, T . H. Farr, 1♂ ( CNCI) .
