Type Material. Holotype male, Brazil, Bahia, Santa Terezinha, Serra da Jibóia, 07.xi.2010 ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ). Bellini, B.C. col. Paratypes 1 male, same data as Holotype. Type material deposited at Collembola Collection of DBEZ / UFRN.
Description. Total body length of holotype 1.25 mm. Habitus entomobryid ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A). Colour of mounted specimens pale yellow, with two unpaired dark blue spots on head and paired ones on posterolateral margin of Abd. III ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A), eye patches black. Rounded brownish scales covering Ant. I and II, basal half of Ant. III and IV, head, thorax, abdomen, legs, manubrium (dorsally) and dentes (ventrally). Ventral tube without scales. Ant. IV not annulated, with a single apical bulb, several multiciliated setae, some small smooth setae and some blunt s-setae ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 B). Eye patches oval with 8+8 lenses; ‘A’ and ‘B’ lenses largest and G smallest ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C). Five interocular multiciliated setae, ‘p’ as macrochaeta, ‘q’, ‘r’, ‘s’ and ‘t’ as mesochaetae ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C). Pre-labral and labral setae smooth. Labial triangle setae ‘M1’, ‘M2’ and ‘E’ multiciliated, ‘r’ apparently smooth, reduced ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 D), ‘L1’, ‘L2’ multicilated (not drawn). Metatrochanteral organ with approximately 16 short spines ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 E). All ungues with four teeth, two subequal basal paired teeth and two internal, apical unpaired, the internal row with different relative distances from each other between the three legs ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 F-H). Unguiculi lanceolate with slightly serrated posterior edges ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 F-H). Tenent hair capitate with weakly serrated edges. Ventral manubrium with 4+4 subapical setae, spines typically absent on furcula. Mucro typically falcate ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 I).

Etymology. The species was named after the type locality, Serra da Jibóia.
Remarks. Seira jiboiensis sp. nov. can be clearly distinguished from other neotropical Seira species by the combination of the following characteristics: a unique pattern of chaetotaxy on Jacquemart’s (1974) cephalic regions 4B and 6; presence of three macrochaetae (m 2i, m1 and m2) on Jacquemart’s (1974) region 2 of the mesothorax and the presence of three macrochaetae (p3, a4 and a5) on Jacquemart’s region C of the metathorax. However, the general configuration of dorsal chaetotaxy of S. jiboiensis sp. nov. shows some similarities with S. mendoncea Bellini & Zeppelini 2008a and S. ritae Bellini & Zeppelini 2011a , mainly on the Abd. I, which shows 5+5 macrochaetae on the three species (m2, m3, m 4i, m4 and a5) in the new species, possibly the same in S. mendoncea and S. ritae . Seira mendoncea is also similar to S. jiboiensis sp. nov. in Jacquemart’s regions 3A and 3B of the mesothorax; metathorax regions A and B; region B of Abd. II and region A of Abd. III. These three species also share similarities in other features like the presence of a bilobed apical bulb, presence of labial triangle setae "r" and unguiculi acuminate. A detailed comparison between the cited species of Seira is presented in Tables 2 View TABLE 2 and 3. All these features and the near distribution of the three species (presented in the next paragraph) suggest phylogenetic approximation between them.
Seira jiboiensis sp. nov. and S. mendoncea were collected in humid areas of Caatinga (Serra da Jibóia/BA and Cacimba de Dentro/PB, respectively), whereas S. ritae was collected in the Praia do Bessa/PB on sand dunes. Seira jiboiensis sp. nov. was collected during the wet season, in litter and soil samples. The climate of the region according to Koeppen system is type ‘As’, characterised by a peculiar long, dry, summer and a short wet winter ( Kottek et al. 2006).
