A West Mediterranean species that extends in distribution from the Moroccan Rif ( Meinander 1967, Sánchez-Ortega & Azzouz 1998, Errochdi & El Alami 2008, Errochdi et al. 2014) and High Atlas ( Aubert 1956, Pihan & Mohati 1983, Bouzidi & Giudicelli 1994) to the foothills of the Atlantic Pyrenees, and widely distributed within the Iberian Peninsula (Tierno de Figueroa et al. 2003).

Ecology. Larvae are cold stenothermic and crenophilic, occurring primarily in high altitude biotopes ranging between 1400 and 2600 m in the Moroccan mountains. In the southern Iberian Peninsula it is more eurythermic and can be found from 20 to 1900 m (Tierno de Figueroa et al. 2003, Graf et al. 2009). The adults emerge from autumn to spring (XI–VI) ( Aubert 1956, Sánchez-Ortega & Azzouz 1997, Vinçon et al. 2004).
