Type Species: Kootenaia burkei new species

Etymology: The generic name honors the Kootenai Indians, who historically occupied territories in parts of Montana, Idaho, and British Columbia, and who now live on the Flathead and Bonner’s Ferry reservations in Montana and Idaho and on several small reserves in British Columbia.

Diagnosis: Distinct from any other known arionid genus by the absence of a free epiphallus.
