Pachybrachis peccans Suffrian (RelatiVely Secure)
Pachybrachis peccans was rarely found in Illinois until the 1980s ( Table 2). Barney (2018b) reported this species as primarily found across the northern tier states into Canada; Illinois is at the southern edge of the range. This species was fairly common on Coreopsis palmata Nutt. (Compositae) at Nachusa Grasslands.
Pachybrachis pectoralis (F. E. Melsheimer) (Presumed EXtirpated)
All eleven Illinois specimens of P. pectoralis were captured from 1941 to 1960 ( Table 2). Barney (2018b) reported this species as found in virtually every state from the east coast to the 100 th meridian. However, despite intensive collecting it has not been found in Illinois for over 60 years.
Pachybrachis praeclarus Weise (Presumed EXtirpated)
Only two specimens of P. praeclarus have been collected in Illinois, both before 1915 ( Table 2). Barney (2016b) reported only 50 specimens of this species across nine states .
Pachybrachis sherriae Barney (RelatiVely Recent Detection)
Pachybrachis sherriae is relatively common in several Illinois River and Mississippi River hill prairies but was not detected until the 1940s. Barney (2017a) reported P. sherriae as distributed from Illinois to Nebraska, south to Texas. Illinois is at the northeasternmost edge of the range of this species.
Pachybrachis sobrinus Haldeman (Presumed EXtirpated)
Pachybrachis sobrinus has not been detected in Illinois since 1980 ( Table 2). Barney (2018b) reported this species to be distributed across the eastern United States to the 100 th meridian.
Pachybrachis spumarius Suffrian (RelatiVely Secure)
Pachybrachis spumarius is currently relatively common in several Illinois and Mississippi River hill prairies, but was not detected until the 1950s ( Table 2). Barney (2017b) reported P. spumarius as distributed across the eastern United States to the 100 th meridian .
Pachybrachis subfasciatus LeConte (Presumed EXtirpated)
Pachybrachis subfasciatus has been collected in Illinois at low levels since the 1880s ( Table 2). Barney (2017a) reported as most abundant in the Middle Atlantic States to Michigan and south to the Gulf of Mexico.
Pachybrachis texasensis Barney (Presumed EXtirpated)
A single specimen of this western US species was collected at Fults Hill Prairie Nature Preserve during 1981.
Pachybrachis tridens (F. E. Melsheimer) (Presumed EXtirpated)
Only ten specimens of P. tridens are known from Illinois ( Table 2). Barney (2018b) reported this species as widely dispersed across the eastern United States to the 100 th meridian. This species has not been collected again since 2000.
Pachybrachis trinotatus (F. E. Melsheimer) (Presumed EXtirpated)
Pachybrachis trinotatus has been collected in Illinois at low levels since the 1880s ( Table 2). Riley and Barney (2015) reported it as distributed across the eastern United States to the Great Plains. This species has not been collected again since 2000.
Pachybrachis turbidus (J. L. LeConte) (RelatiVely Recent Detection)
Only six individuals of P. turbidus have been collected in Illinois, all from Fults Hill Prairie Nature Preserve, Monroe County ( Table 2). Barney (2017a) reported this species distributed from Texas to Nebraska. The Illinois specimens represent the easternmost extent of its range .
