Diagnosis. Dark species with mesosoma mainly blackish and metasoma usually reddish, tergite I always black. Ventral margins of tergite I partially joining, presence of a postero-median area on mesoscutum, face barely wider than high, clypeus densely punctate with short hairs, forewing with 1R1 sessile or subsessile.

Comments. This species shows large intraspecific color variations, especially on metasoma. This is probably related to the wide variety of environments in which it was collected: the darker specimens have been collected at high altitude (> 800m). The identification of specimens from Reunion was confirmed by a molecular analysis on CO1 DNA (J. Stigenberg), though they exhibit significantly shorter antennae (23–26 flagellomeres) than noticed in the Huddleston’s (1980) redescription of the species (29–33 flagellomeres).
