Material examined. Type series: Lectotype male, here designated: MNHN, “ Aturus prenanti [cancelled: “ pyrenaeus ”] n.sp. male 5012”, without collecting sites and date information; paralectotype, as lectotype, but “5013” (male).
France: Labelled like lectotype, but “5014”, including 2 ♀♀; “ Aturus prenanti male prep 222-76, Ruis. de Gamacha près Ardengost 65, n° 95–76, 30/VIII/76 ".
Remarks. This in males highly distinct species was described by E. Angelier (1965) from this sex only. Male Aturus prenanti have all setae Dgl-3–5 bifurcated, arranged in a transverse line in the centre of dorsal shield; furthermore, all setae of Lgl-1–4 are very short and simple, and are lined at equal distances in the dorsal furrow. Obviously, E. Angelier considered two females collected together with males as conspecific, and gave them name labels, but did not describe them for unknown reasons, a task taken over here in the following. Female: Idiosoma length 400–480, dL 350–430, W unclear (deformation due to squeezing); dorsal shield L/W 330–370/250–300, with an extended posterior area of secondary sclerotization bearing excretory pore and, posterior to it, a centrally concave platelet-like extension flanked by a pair of glands. Dgl-4 rather distanced from Dgl-5 (ratio Dgl-3–4/ 4–5, 1.6–1.7). Genital field with 13–15 pairs of Ac various in size, medially in a single, laterally in a double row, twofine setae located medial to medial Ac. Lateral Vgl in primary, medial Vgl in secondary sclerotization. Palp measurements (L/H, L/H ratio, relative L % total L): P-1, 16–17, 0.6–0.8, 7–8; P-2, 57–65, 1.2–1.3, 25–27; P-3, 35, 0.9–1.0, 15; P-4, 82–83, 2.3–2.6, 35–36; P-5, 35–40, 2.7–2.9, 15–17.
