Ecology:—In Vietnam, this species has been found in cloudy ridge-top evergreen broad-leaved forests at the elevation of 1700–2100 m. There it grows as an epiphyte on moss-covered canopy branches along with epiphytic orchids (e.g., Bulbophyllum and Panisea spp. ) and ferns (e.g., Scleroglossum and Radiogrammitis spp. ).

Note:—This is the third species of Ctenopterella Parris known from Vietnam ( Parris et al. 2015), and it can be distinguished from the other two, C. blechnoides (Grev.) Parris (2007: 235) and C. nhatrangensis (C.Chr. & Tardieu) Parris (2013: 207) , by the combined characters of erect or ascending rhizomes and each fertile segment with a conspicuous acroscopic tooth at base.
