Pteris latipinna Y.S.Chao & W.L.Chiou View in CoL ( Fig. 12 View FIGURE 12 )
Type:— TAIWAN. Hsinchu County: Zhudong Town, Wuchihshan, 3 March 2013, Y.- S. Chao 2092 (holotype: TAIF-513634!, isotypes: TAIF-513635!, TAIF-513636!, TNS!).
Voucher specimens examined:— VIETNAM. Lam Dong Province, Lam Ha District, Phi To Commune, Nam Ban Protection Forest, Tieu khu 245, broad-leaved evergreen forest, ca. 1300 m, 11.914° N, 108.264° E, 4 December 2018, Y.- S. Chao 3058 ( SGN!, TAIF!) GoogleMaps ; same locality, 2 June 2019, C.- W. Chen Wade5727 ( PHH!, SGN!, SING!, TAIF!) GoogleMaps .
Additional specimens examined:— TAIWAN. Hsinchu County, Guanxi, Chike Mt., P.- F. Lu 24586 (TAIF-512825!, TAIF-512826!); Hsinchu County, Jianshi, P.- F. Lu 25108 (TAIF-404820!); Hsinchu County, Pawushan, P.- F. Lu 26666 (TAIF-446791!, TAIF-446792!).
Distribution:—Previously only known from Taiwan.
Ecology:—This species grows on ground under broad-leaved evergreen forest at altitudes of 1100–1300 m.
Note:—In Vietnam, this species is most morphologically very similar to Pteris fauriei Hieron. but can be distinguished by having wider lateral pinnae and its terminal pinna is distinctly larger than lateral pinnae. Chao et al. (2017) also mentioned that P. latipinna can also be distinguished from its closely related species by its triangular basal segments of the lateral pinnae. However, the basal segments of lateral pinnae of the plants in Vietnam are falcate and we also noticed that the plants in Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 of Chao et al. (2017) neither of them has those triangular basal segments. Therefore, the triangular basal segments of the lateral pinnae are not characteristic for P. latipinna .
