Ptilotis unicolor brenda Mathews, 1912b: 50 (Melville Island, Northern Territory).

Now Lichenostomus unicolor (Gould, 1843) View in CoL . See Salomonsen, 1967: 386, Schodde and Mason, 1999: 238, Christidis and Boles, 2008: 185–191, and Higgins et al., 2008: 601–602.

HOLOTYPE: AMNH 695762 About AMNH , adult male, collected at Coopers Camp , Apsley Strait, Melville Island, Northern Territory, Australia, on 10 October 1911, by J.P. Rogers (no. 2155). From the Mathews Collection (no. 10746) via the Rothschild Collection.

COMMENTS: Mathews gave his catalog number of the holotype in the original description and the range of the form as ‘‘ Melville Island .’’ Mathews (1912b: 26) noted that Rogers had sent him two shipments of specimens from Melville Island ; these would include specimens collected at Coopers Camp in 1911. Paratypes are: AMNH 695757– 695761 About AMNH , 695763–695769 About AMNH (Mathews nos. 10745, 10748, 10749, 11507–11515). The specimen cataloged by Mathews as no. 10747, female, collected 27 October 1911, did not come to AMNH and if found, is also a paratype .

Coopers Camp was said by Hart and Pilling (1964: 101) to have been across Apsley Strait from the Bathurst Island Mission Station, 11.45S, 130.41E (Times Atlas).
