HOLOTYPE: AMNH 696989 About AMNH , female, collected at Coopers Creek , Apsley Strait, Melville Island, Northern Territory, Australia, on 16 October 1911, by J.P. Rogers (no. 2195). From the Mathews Collection (no. 10757) via the Rothschild Collection.

COMMENTS: Mathews cited his catalog number of the holotype in the original description and gave the range as ‘‘ Melville Island . ’’ The holotype bears Rogers’ original label and Mathews and Rothschild type labels. When this form was named, Mathews (1912b: 26) had received only two shipments of specimens from Melville Island, all collected in 1911. Paratypes are: males, AMNH 696983 About AMNH (Mathews no. 10762), 29 September ; AMNH 696984 About AMNH (11547), 21 November ; AMNH 696985 About AMNH (11546), 16 November ; females, AMNH 696986 About AMNH (11548), 10 November ; AMNH 696987 About AMNH (11545), 29 November ; AMNH 696988 About AMNH (10756), 30 October ; AMNH 696990 About AMNH (10761), 1 October. An additional specimen, not in AMNH, was cataloged by Mathews as no. 11549, male, 25 November 1911 and, if found, is also a paratype .

Hart and Pilling (1964: 101) gave the location of Coopers Camp as directly across Apsley Strait from the Bathurst Island Mission Station, 11.45S, 130.41E (Times Atlas).
