Cephennomicrus nagoanus View in CoL sp. n.
( Figs. 17 View FIGURES 15 – 20 , 25, 26)
Type material. Holotype: JAPAN: 3, "Mt.Nagodake (leaf litter), Nago-shi, Okinawajima Is. [Ryukyu], 21.iii.2005, S. Nomura leg." (white, printed) ( NSMT).
Diagnosis. Body ca. 1 mm in length; pronotal disc with large and very sparse punctures; sides of pronotum straight, not constricted; lateral margin of each elytron with 4–5 long setae, but only humeral seta is distinctly longer and more erect than basic vestiture; aedeagus with very short and very broad central complex, and with simple median duct, without loops.
Description. BL 0.97. Body of male ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 15 – 20 ) moderately stout, pigmentation dark reddish-brown, vestiture yellowish.
Head large, HL 0.12, HW 0.25; vertex and frons convex, rounded together; frontal glands as small as single ommatidium, each located near internal anterior margin of eye; eyes large, coarsely faceted, moderately convex. Punctation on frons and vertex composed of fine but distinct punctures discernible under magnification 40x, evenly distributed; setae very short, sparse, nearly recumbent. Antennae short, moderately compact, with very large antennomeres X–XI, AnL 0.40; antennomere I about 1.6x as long as broad; II slightly narrower and shorter than I, 1.7x as long as broad; III much narrower than II, subquadrate; IV as narrow as III but distinctly longer, 1.2x as long as broad; V as narrow as IV but longer, 1.3x as long as broad; VI as narrow as V but shorter, 1.2x as long as broad; VII as narrow as VI but slightly longer, 1.3x as long as broad; VIII as narrow as VII but distinctly shorter, about 1.1x as long as broad; IX slightly broader and much longer than VIII, 1.4x as long as broad; X slightly longer and much broader than IX, much broader than long; XI as broad as X and distinctly longer, 1.2x as long as broad.
Pronotum subrectangular in shape, equally broad from near base up to anterior third; PL 0.30, PW 0.38; anterior margin broadly, regularly rounded; sides strongly rounded in anterior third, distinctly microserrate, from anterior third to near base straight and not convergent toward blunt, slightly obtuse hind angles; posterior margin with broad and shallow lateral and short median emarginations; base of pronotum with four relatively large and deep pits forming two lateral pairs, distance between internal pits of each pair is longer than 1/3 width of pronotum. Punctation of pronotal disc composed of large, deep and sharply marked punctures distributed very sparsely and unevenly, in central part of disc punctures are separated by spaces as long as 2– 4 x puncture diameter. Basic vestiture relatively long, dense, suberect, setae along lateral margins are slightly more erect; additionally pronotum bears two longer setae on each lateral margin, but they are only slightly more erect than basic setation and barely noticeable; long setae in middle part of posterior margin of pronotum missing.
Elytra oval, broadest distinctly anterior to middle, EL 0.55, EW 0.46, EI 1.19. Each humeral callus is delimited from internal part of elytron by deep and narrow basal impression running posteriorly and toward lateral margin of elytron; apices of elytra separately rounded. Punctation much finer than that on pronotum, composed of very small, shallow and indistinctly marked punctures; vestiture as dense as that on pronotum but composed of slightly longer and more suberect setae; humeral long seta on each elytron very long and strongly erect, 3–4 long setae along lateral margin of each elytron only slightly longer and more erect than basic vestiture. Hind wings well developed.
Legs moderately long and slender, pro- and metatibiae straight, mesotibiae slightly recurved.
Metaventrite with extremely small median tubercle.
Aedeagus (Figs. 25, 26); AeL 0.24; internal armature complicated, with short and very broad central complex surrounding simple, broad duct without loops; parameres with slender apices, not reaching apex of median lobe, each paramere bears two moderately long apical setae.
Female unknown.
Distribution. Japan, Okinawa Pref.: Okinawa Island.
Etymology. Locotypical, after the type locality, Mt. Nagodake, Nago-shi, Okinawa Is.
