status

33. Lithobius (Monotarsobius) ferganensis Trotzina, 1894 View in CoL

Type locality: [ Kyrgyzstan, Osh Region] Nördlichen Alai , 2330–3330 m [N Alai Mt. Range — Kg 24*] ( Trotzina 1894) .

Lithobius ferganensis Trotzina, 1894: 252 View in CoL (18 ad., 1 juv.).

Monotarsobius ferganensis View in CoL — Attems, 1904: 115; Zalesskaja, 1978: 162 (♂ ♀). Lithobius (Monotarsobius) ferganensis View in CoL — Eason, 1997: 120; Farzalieva, 2006: 105; Ma et al., 2014: 344.

Previous records. Kyrgyzstan: Osh Region —N of Alai Mt. Range [Kg24*] ( Trotzina 1894); “Middle Asian” ( Zalesskaja 1978).

Habitat records. “Mostly alpine” ( Zalesskaja 1978).

Remarks. Eason established 13 species and subspecies (see Eason 1997: 120) from Turkey, Caucasus and Middle Asia as junior synonyms of L. ferganensis , but two of them ( L. turkestanicus and L. sseliwanoffi ) were questioned by Farzalieva (2006). She follows Zalesskaja (1978), who regarded these species as valid. In the current paper, we support this point of view and consider L. ferganensis as Middle Asian species. Some authors share Eason’s opinion ( Simaiakis et al. 2013; Ma et al. 2014; Zuev 2016; Zarei et al. 2020) and consider the range of L. ferganensis wider than Middle Asia.
