Macrochelidae View in CoL includes 25 genera, but only some species of the genus Macrocheles Latreille, 1829 have been found on Passalidae View in CoL : M. mammifer Berlese, 1918 (as M. tridentatus Delfinado and Baker, 1975 ), M. insignitus (Berlese, 1918) (syn. M. whartoni Delfinado and Baker, 1975 ) and M. disjunctus Delfinado and Baker, 1975 View in CoL were collected from Odontotaenius disjunctus View in CoL and M. insignitus was collected from Popilius sp. and undetermined Passalidae View in CoL , all from the USA ( Reinert 1973; Delfinado and Baker 1975) ( Tables 2 View Table 2 , 4 and 8). Delfinado and Baker considered this species to occur commonly on O. disjunctus View in CoL , but Harrel and Mathis (1964) investigating mites occurring O. disjunctus View in CoL in the USA and otherwise the Macrochelidae View in CoL have never been collected from Passalidae View in CoL .
