COMMENT: Included in Felis by Corbet, 1978: 182, but maintained as a separate genus by Matyushkin, 1979, Arch. Zool. Mus. Moscow St. Univ., 18:76-162, and Werdelin, 1981, Ann. Zool. Fenn., 18:37-71, who revised the genus. Includes Caracal ; Matyushkin, 1979:95, provisionally included the subgenus Caracal in this genus, but Werdelin, (op. cit.) retained Caracal as a distinct genus.
