COMMENT: Type locality restricted by Thomas, 1911, Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1911: 134. Reviewed by Rieger, 1981, Mamm. Species, 150: 105.

PROTECTED STATUS: U.S. ESA - Endangered as H. h. barbara subspecies only.
