TYPE LOCALITY: Chile, Coast of Magellan Straits .
DISTRIBUTION: Atacama ( Chile) and Santiago del Estero ( Argentina) south to Tierra del Fuego.
COMMENT: Subgenus Dusicyon or Pseudalopex ; see Cabrera, 1958:233; Van Gelder, 1978:7. Pseudalopex has been considered a synonym of Dusicyon by Cabrera, 1958:229, and Clutton-Brock et al., 1976, 29(3): 166; a subgenus of Dusicyon by Langguth, 1969, Z. Wiss. Zool., 179: 176; a subgenus of Canis by Langguth, 1975:193, and Van Gelder, 1978:7. Includes fulvipes ; see Corbet and Hill, 1980:93; Langguth, 1969, Z. Wiss. Zool., p. 179.
