TYPE LOCALITY: Indonesia, W. Java, Batavia .
DISTRIBUTION: India; Burma; S. China and Hainan Isl.; Taiwan; S. E. Asia to Sumatra; Java; Borneo; Palawan Isl. ( Philippines).
COMMENT: Subgenus Amblonyx ; Ellerman and Morrison-Scott, 1951:278, treated Amblonyx as a subgenus of Aonyx , as did Corbet and Hill, 1980:99, and Lekagul and McNeely, 1977:559; but see Medway, 1977:133, who considered Amblonyx a distinct genus; see also Davis, 1978, in Otters, IUCN Publ., N. S., 1.
PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix II as Lutrinae .
