TYPE LOCALITY: India, S. E. Himalayas .
DISTRIBUTION: Yunnan and Szechwan ( China); N. Burma; Sikkim; Nepal.
COMMENT: Although this species is usually included in the Procyonidae because of its ringed tail, facial markings, and superficial resemblance of teeth and skull to Procyon , this species has no shared derived morphological characters that would place it here (SK). Thenius, 1979, Z. Saugetierk., 44:386-305, and Gromov and Baranova, 1981:255, placed it in the monotypic subfamily Ailurinae.
