TYPE LOCALITY: Spain, El Pardo, near Madrid .
DISTRIBUTION: Africa, N. W. of the Sahara to Libya; Egypt; Palestine; Iberia; Balearic Isis.; and S. France to the Rhone River.
COMMENT: Rosevear, 1974:193, separated senegalensis from genetta ; but see Coetzee, 1977, Part 8:20, Kingdon, 1977:136- 143, and Cabral, 1969, Bol. Inst. Invest. Cient. Angola, 6(1):3— 33. Schlawe, 1980, considered senegalensis a subspecies of G. felina . Includes afra, bonapartei, barbara , terraesanctae, rhodanica, and isabelae; see Schlawe, 1980, Faun. Abh. Staat. Mus. J. Tierk., Dresden, 7(15): 147 — 161, who also provisionally separated felina from genetta ; but also see Coetzee, 1977, Part 8:20; Ansell, 1978:39; and Cabral, 1969, Bol. Inst. Invest. Cient.
