TYPE LOCALITY: China, Canton .
DISTRIBUTION: India and Nepal, China north to Hopei and Shansi; vic. Peking; Hainan Isl. ( China); Taiwan; Thailand; Malaya; Vietnam; Sumatra; N. Borneo; Viper Isl. (S. Andaman Isis.).
COMMENT: Hamilton-Smith type locality unknown. Gray first assigned the name to two specimens collected by J. R. Reeve from Canton, China; see Pocock, 1934, Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond., 1934:666(WCW). Probably includes lanígera (SW); see Ellerman and Morrison-Scott, 1951:290.
