TYPE LOCALITY: Gabon .
DISTRIBUTION: Equatorial Africa, E. of the mouth of the Niger River, possibly to Mt. Elgon ( Kenya), south to the Congo River and 7° S.
COMMENT: Includes cristata , and aubryana, but not bini (sensu Rosevear, 1974:200-201), which may actually be a junior synonym of maculata ; see Wenzel and Haltenorth, 1972, Saugetierk.
