Dematochroma maculifrons ( Heller, 1916)
( Figs 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 28–30 View FIGURES 25 – 36 )
Thasycles maculifrons Heller, 1916:302 .
Dematochroma maculifrons: Jolivet et al., 2007a:39 .
Type material. Province Sud: Holotype, 13 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ): Mt. Humboldt, 1100m., 17 September 1911, F. Sarasin & J. Roux leg. [pale blue label], maculifrons Typus [red label], Staatl. Museum für Tierkunde, Dresden [white label], Dematochroma maculifrons Heller [white label] (MfT).
This species is exclusively known from one male specimen in MfT labeled as type and with collection data matching those provided in the description. Even though Heller (1916) did not indicate how many specimens were available for description, this specimen is proposed here as holotype by monotypy. The original description was very detailed, and it is complemented here with the description of the median lobe of aedeagus, dissected from the holotype.
Penis ( Figs 28–30 View FIGURES 25 – 36 ) relatively large, regularly curved, weakly but gradually narrowing towards apex in lateral view; apical area beyond apical margin of ostium more quickly tapering towards blunt pointed apex. Penis in ventral view, gradually and feebly narrowing from basal hood towards half length, and gradually widening again towards area of ostium, reaching maximal width at level with distal end of ostium, 1.5x wider than narrowest point at mid aedeagal length. Apex of penis as equilateral triangle, with sides very feebly sinuate and blunt rounded apex, with faint short longitudinal impression. Ostium large, nearly round.
Distribution. The specimens reported as D. maculifrons from Sarraméa and Col d’Amieu in Jolivet et al. (2007a) are misidentified, and belong to an unknown taxon. Therefore, this species should be considered at present endemic to the massif of Humboldt.
