[WHITE-THROATED NEEDLETAIL Hirundapus caudacutus View in CoL ]
Status No previous records of this Palearctic migrant on any of the Teluk Cenderawasih Islands or in most of Indonesian New Guinea except the Aru Islands ( Diamond & Bishop 1994) and south-east lowlands (Beehler & Pratt 2016). However, on nearby Numfor on 25 September 2018, J. Mazenauer (in litt. 2021) noted a flock of ten Fork-tailed Swifts Apus pacificus together with a single White-throated Needletail, which permitted close views, enabling him to see all of the key features.
