Rolston (1973a), in his review of the species of Hymenarcys , indicated that the three species treated in Hymenarcys above were more closely related to each other than they were to the fourth species, Hymenarcys aequalis , but he refrained from describing a new genus. Thomas (2012) supported Rolston’s opinion, but he believed the differences were great enough to warrant the erection of a new genus, which he named Mcphersonarcys .
