Alcaeorrhynchus grandis ( Dallas, 1851)

Distribution: United States: AL ( Meeds & Bertone 2021), AR, FL, GA ( McPherson et al. 1993, Meeds & Bertone 2021), KS ( Packauskas 2012, Meeds & Bertone 2021), LA ( Richman & Mead 1978, Meeds & Bertone 2021), MO ( Sites et al. 2012), MS ( Richmond 1962, Meeds & Bertone 2021), NC ( Meeds & Bertone 2021), NM (Bundy 2012), OK ( Chordas & McAllister 2019), SC ( Meeds & Bertone 2021), TX. ( Mexico, Central America, West Indies, South America)

Comments: Simons (1969) recorded this species from Alabama in an unpublished thesis, and there are also a number of recent photographs of this species from Alabama as well as South Carolina ( Meeds & Bertone 2021). Barton & Lee (1981) reported two records of this species from Arkansas, but given the known distribution at that time, they speculated that these records might be incidental records; accordingly, Froeschner (1988) listed the Arkansas record with a question mark. This species has now been reported from Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma so the records from Arkansas might very well be valid.
