Tepa rugulosa ( Say, 1831a)

Distribution: Canada: AB, BC, SK ( Maw et al. 2000). United States: AR ( Barton & Lee 1981), AZ, CA, CO, FL ( Blatchley 1926), ID, MO, MT, ND, NE ( Van Duzee 1917, Rider 1986b), NM, NV, OR, SD, TX, UT, WA, WY ( Rider 1986b). (Baja California)

Comments: There has been considerable confusion surrounding this species as most early workers, including

Rolston (1972) in his review of the genus, considered Tepa punctiventris (Van Duzee) and Tepa rugulosa to be separate valid species. Rider (1986b), however, after examining type material determined that these two taxa were conspecific, which left Tepa punctiventris of authors without a name. Rider (1986b) proposed Tepa vanduzeei as a new name for Tepa punctiventris of authors (not Van Duzee). Still, it is difficult to determine which early records apply to which of the two species (see Rider 1986b for some clarification). The Florida record of this species ( Blatchley, 1926) probably should be transferred to Tepa panda .
