Records of subfossil Quaternary freshwater sponges that are mentioned in numerous papers (see Racek 1966; Harrison et al. 1979; Matsuoka 1983; Harrison and Warner 1986; Harrison 1988ab, 1990; Frost 2001; Volkmer-Ribeiro et al. 2004; Volkmer-Ribeiro and Machado 2007; Parolin et al. 2008; Machado et al. 2012, 2014) and that raise no doubts about their taxonomic attribution are not considered in the present paper.
