Type material. Holotype: female, Brazil, “6-V4 MP, Maracas Bay RD. T’Dad, WI; 06/II/1977, J. Boos. ” ( CNCI).

Description. Female. Body length 11.3 mm; fore wing length 7.0 mm.

Head width (dorsal view) 1.5 × its median length, 1.3 × maximum width of mesoscutum. Head behind eyes (dorsal view) roundly narrowed. Eye 2.3 × longer than temple (dorsal view); in lateral view transverse diameter of eye 3.5 × width of temple. Ocelli medium-sized, arranged in almost equilateral triangle. POL 0.8 × Od, 0.4 × OOL. Frons concave, with fine but distinct and long median longitudinal carina. Eye glabrous, 1.2 × higher than broad. Face width 0.7 × height of eye and 0.9 × height of face and clypeus combined. Malar space 0.3 × height of eye, 0.9 × basal width of mandible. Hypoclypeal depression width 0.8 × the shortest distance between depression and eye and 0.3 × width of face.

Antenna slender, almost filiform, with more than 21 antennomeres (apical antennomeres missing). Scape 1.4 × longer than its maximum width. First flagellomere 4.7 × longer than its apical width, as long as second flagellomere. Submedian flagellomeres about 4.5 × longer than their maximum width.

Mesosoma 2.1 × longer than its maximum height. Pronotum distinctly convex dorsally (lateral view) and with fine submedian pronotal carina (dorsal view). Median lobe of mesoscutum distinctly protruding forwards and anteriorly weakly convex, without median longitudinal furrow. Notauli complete, deep and crenulated. Median length of mesoscutum 1.1 × its maximum width. Prescutellar depression (scutellar sulcus) rather deep, finely crenulated, with infour distinct carinae, 0.6 × as long as scutellum medially. Precoxal sulcus (sternaulus) absent.

Wings. Fore wing 4.2 × longer than maximum width. Vein r (first radial abscissa) arising from middle of pterostigma. Vein 3RSa (second radial abscissa) 1.7 × longer than vein r (first radial abscissa), 0.3 × as long as the straight vein 3RSb (third radial abscissa), 1.2 × longer than vein 2RS (first radiomedial). Second submarginal (radiomedial) cell 3.1 × longer than maximum width, 0.7 × as long as first subdiscal (brachial) cell. Vein (RS+M)a (first medial abscissa) weakly sinuate. Vein 1m-cu (recurrent) antefurcal, subparallel to vein 1M (basal). Vein 1cu- a (nervulus) postfurcal, about 0.2 × as long as distance between veins 1M (basal) and nervulus (1cu-a). Hind wing vein M+CU (first submedial abscissa) 0.3 × as long as vein 1-M (second submedial abscissa). Vein m-cu (recurrent) almost straight and interstitial.

Legs. Hind femur 3.8 × longer than maximum width. Hind tarsus about as long as hind tibia. Basitarsus of hind tarsus as long as second-fifth segments of hind tarsus combined. Second segment of hind tarsus 0.4 × as long as basitarsus, 1.7 × longer than fifth segment (without pretarsus).

Metasoma 1.3 × longer than mesosoma and head combined. First tergite without basolateral lobes and spiracular tubercles, distinctly and linearly widened from subbase to apex. Length of first tergite almost equal to its maximum (subapical) width; maximum width 1.2 × its minimum (basal) width. Second tergite with wide, rather deep and almost parallel sublateral furrows; median length of second tergite 0.9 × its basal width, 1.4 × median length of third tergite. Suture between second and third tergites entirely deep, distinctly sinuate, with strong sublateral bends. Third tergite with distinct wide transverse crenulated sulcus in basal third. Ovipositor sheath 1.2 × longer than metasoma, 2.2 × longer than mesosoma, a bout as long as fore wing.

Sculpture and pubescence. Vertex smooth; frons rugose, with transverse curved striation; face rugose. Mesoscutum mainly smooth, rugulose in medioposterior subquadrangular area. Mesopleuron mainly almost smooth. Metapleuron smooth with very fine granulation. Propodeum with basolateral areas distinctly delineated by carinae, areola absent; propodeum mainly rugose, densely areolate-rugose on areola place. Hind coxa and femur mainly smooth. First and second metasomal tergites coarsely and sparsely rugose. Third tergite distinctly and densely areolate in basal 0.4 (medially)–0.6 (laterally) and smooth apically. Fourth and fifth tergites very densely and small areolate in basal halves, smooth on remaining parts. Vertex glabrous on wide area, with sparse short setae medioposteriorly. Mesoscutum mostly covered by rather dense and semi-erect pale setae. Dorsal side of hind tibia with long, rather sparse and semi-erect pale setae, length of the longest setae 0.7 × maximum width of tibia.

Colour. Head mainly black, malar space partly and mandibles entirely yellow. Palpi yellow. Antenna black. Mesosoma mostly dark brown to black, ventral half of mesopleuron brown, pronotum yellow at ventral part, metapleuron brown, propodeum dark brown. Tegula yellow. Metasoma mostly dark brown, light yellow laterally, first tergite entirely and semicircular area of second tergite black. Fore and mid legs dark brown marked with yellow, but fore coxa yellow apically, trochanter and trochantellus light yellow, femur yellow in basal part; mid femur yellow basally and apically; mid tibia light yellow basally; fifth tarsal segment black. Hind legs black, except hind coxa light yellow apically and hind femur dark yellow basally, hind tibia light yellow basally; tarsus dark brown. Ovipositor sheath black. Wings faintly and evenly infuscate. Pterostigma dark brown.

Male. Unknown.

Distribution. Trinidad and Tobago.

Etymology. Named after the type locality where the holotype was collected.

Comparative diagnosis. This new species belongs to the morphological group with densely setose mesoscutum. Pedinotus maracas sp. nov. is similar to P. columbianus Enderlein , but it differs from the latter species by having the frons almost entirely rugose (weakly striate near sockets in P. columbianus ), semi-circular area of second tergite rugose (finely areolate-striate in P. columbianus ), and mesosoma mostly dark brown to black (mostly brownish yellow to light reddish brown or orange with dark brown or black markings in P. columbianus ).
