Type. Holotype: Male , VIETNAM, near entrance of Back Ma National Park, 40m, Hue, 17 & 19 vi 2004 (KT Park & N. Cuong), gen slide no. CIS-8618 . Paratypes: 7 6, 2♀, same collecting site and locality, 17 & 19 vi 2004 (KT Park & N. Cuong), gen slide no. CIS-8619; 1 6, same locality, 1100 m , 18 vi 2004 (KT Park & N. Cuong)
Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from its allies by having a long expansible hairpencil on the under surface of the forewing and a similar one on the upper surface of the hindwing in the male, and both valvae in the male genitalia with similar needle-like processes in the zone of modified scales. The hindwing has a broad anterior expansion extended to 2/3 the length of costa.
Description. Male and female ( Figs. 1, 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 a, 1b, 4, 5): Wingspan 13.0–14.5 mm. Head shiny pale grayish white, tipped with white apically on vertex. Scape of antenna gray, speckled with dark brown scales dorsally, fuscous along anterior margin; flagellum pale grayish white with brown annulations. Second segment of labial palpus in male trapezoidal, with a scale tuft antero-ventrally, gray in upper half and dark brown in lower half on outer surface, grayish white throughout on inner surface; 3rd segment atrophied in male, but in female second segment with scale tuft ventrally and 3rd segment normally slender, with a narrow brown band at basal 1/4 and a broad brown band obliquely developed before middle. Tegula gray, tipped with white apically, with black scales along anterior margin. Thorax same color as dorsal surface of tegula. Hind tibia slender, shiny orange white on outer surface, with long hair-like scales dorsally. Forewing elongate; ground color grayish white, brown scales scattered, with a black sub basal streak in upper part of cell, extending 1/8 length and some other short black transverse streaks more densely distributed beyond half; costa gently arched, with no distinct costal patch; apex more or less sharply produced; termen strongly oblique; fringe gray; a long expansible hair pencil presented near base on the underside ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 -a), but female without such hair pencil; cell closed; venation ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) with R1 arising from before middle; distance between R1-R2 at base about 2.5 times that of R2-R3; R3 free; R4 and R5 stalked beyond middle; R5 to costa; M1 very close to R4+5 at base, reaching beyond apex; M2 andM3 nearly connate at base; distance between M3 and CuA1 about 1/3 of that between CuA1 and CuA2. Hindwing broader than forewing, with broad costal expansion shown in the Figure 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 -b, densely covered with black scales from base to middle below lower margin of discal cell and from base to 3/4 of wing in upper margin of discal cell on upper surface; male with a long expansible hairpencil presented near base on the upper surface, slightly shorter than half length of wing, but female’s ground color gray throughout and without long hairpencil; costa broadly expanded to 2/3 length; apex less acute; fringe gray; venation ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) with Rs and M1 stalked at basal 1/3; M2 far from M3 basally, M3 also far from CuA1 at base.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 6, 6 View FIGURES 6 – 9 a, 6b): Caudal margin of abdominal sternite VIII deeply emarginated in triangle at middle ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 9 b). Uncus short, acute apically, less than 1/2 length of socius. Socius large, semiovate, longer than uncus, broader than distal part of tegumen, with round lateral margin and long hairs along lateral margin. Tegumen moderately wide, much broadened basally, with nearly parallel lateral sides, slightly broadened beyond half. Valvae asymmetrical. Left valva elongate-oval, inflated basally, with a slender, heavily sclerotized hook-shaped process, about 3/5 the length of left valva, arising from near base ventrally; patch of palmately modified scales in distal 1/4, more or less triangular with slender sclerotized process, nearly straight, about 2/3 the length of basal process, apex blunt. Right valva more or less slender, sclerotized, slightly bent beyond 3/5, with small triangular lobe near base on ventral margin; patch similar to that of left valva, but process slightly shorter than that of left valva, apex acute. Phallus curved beyond middle, as long as 3/5 of left valva, flattened in distal 1/3 and twisted from middle, strongly ankylosed with juxta and vinculum; apex blunt.
Female genitalia ( Figs. 9, 9 View FIGURES 6 – 9 a): Abdominal sternite VIII slightly concave on caudal margin. Apophyses anteriores very short, stout. Apophyses posteriores about 1.5 times of papillae anales in length. Ostium bursae concave on caudal margin. Antrum funnel-shaped, broadened distally, sclerotized. Ductus bursae narrow, shorter than corpus bursae. Corpus bursae semiovate; signum plate long, narrow, about 1/3 the length of corpus bursae, with a short conic spine in distal 1/4.
Distribution. Vietnam (Central).
Etymology. The species name is derived from the local name, Hue, which was the national capital of Nguyen Dynasty (1802–1945) of Vietnam.
