Neobarombiella flavicollis ( Laboissière, 1923) comb. n.
( Figs 82–87)
Barombia flavicollis Laboissière, 1923: 189 .
Barombiella piceobasalis Laboissière, 1940: 84 syn. n.
Total length. 3.50–5.25 mm (mean: 4.61 mm) (n=12).
Head. Frons and vertex yellow, labrum brown, labial and maxillary palpi black. Antenna yellowish-brown ( Fig. 82); length of second to third antennomere 0.60–0.70 (mean: 0.68), and length of third to fourth antennomere 0.67–0.75 (mean: 0.71; Fig. 84). Eyes large ( Fig. 82), and width of eye to interocular distance 0.56–0.65 (mean: 0.60).
Thorax. Pronotum yellow; broad, strongly trapezoidal, and lacking deep punctuation; pronotal width 1.40–2.20 mm (mean: 1.80 mm), pronotal length 0.66–0.98 mm (mean: 0.83 mm), and pronotal length to width 0.43–0.49 (mean: 0.46). Elytron yellowish-brown, usually becoming yellowish- or reddish-brown towards apex, humerus usually darker brownish colour; lacking deep punctuation; elytron of specimens from Equatorial Guinea with clearly defined reddish-brown apical margin; elytral length 2.85–4.30 mm (mean: 3.77 mm), elytral width 2.00– 3.10 mm (mean: 2.65 mm), and maximal width of both elytra to length of elytron 0.67–0.75 (mean: 0.71; Fig. 82). Meso- and metathorax brownish-yellow, legs entirely brown, length of basi-metatarsus to metatibia 0.45–0.52 (mean: 0.49).
Abdomen. Entirely brownish-yellow.
Male genitalia. Median lobe short, conical towards apex, strongly down-curved in lateral view ( Fig. 83); apex lacking sclerotized ridges or hooks, rounded, with a small V-shaped apical incision; endophallic brush protrudes slightly towards apex of median lobe.
Diagnosis. Neobarombiella flavicollis is characterized by its reddish-brown elytral humeri. Neobarombiella naumanni sp. n. has the most similar in colouring to N. flavicollis , but can be distinguished from the latter species by having a shorter third antennomere, length of third to fourth antennomere 0.55–0.62 (0.67–0.75 in N. flavicollis ) ( Figs 84, 171). Some specimens of N. senegalensis also have similar colouring, but can be distinguished by their smaller eyes, width of eye to interocular distance 0.42–0.48) (0.56–0.65 in N. flavicollis ) ( Figs 82, 92). Neobarombiella medvedevi sp. n. and N. cornuta sp. n. can be separated from N. flavicollis by the shape of the pronotum, pronotal length to width 0.49–0.53 or 0.52–0.56 respectively (0.43–0.49 in N. flavicollis ) ( Figs 82, 137, 165). Although N. spielbergi sp. n. and N. frontalis sp. n. occur sympatrically with N. flavicollis , the former species has entirely yellow elytron ( Figs. 185, 188), whereas the latter species has a black spot at frons and black sutural margins ( Figs. 153, 156). The sometimes rather similar species of Neobarombiella suturalis has a more glossy appearance, shorter antennomeres and is more coarsely punctuated than N. flavicollis ( Figs. 90, 91).
Distribution. Guineo-Congolian forest region, recorded from the Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Equatorial- Guinea through the Congo Basin towards the western slopes of the Albertine Rift ( Fig. 85).
Type material examined. Barombia flavicollis . Holotype, female: “Assinie, Côte occid. Afrique, Ch. Alluaud 1886 / Type / Barombia , flavicollis, m., V. Laboissière – Dét. / Le Moult vend., via Reinbek, Eing. Nr. 1, 1957 / AfriGa, specimen ID:, 1212, specimen data, documented, 20.X.2005 “ ( ZMUH; Fig. 86) . Holotype by monotypy (“un individu”). Type locality: Ghana, Assinie , 8°08'N / 3°15'W GoogleMaps .
Barombiella piceobasalis . Lectotype, male: “ Holotypus / Musée du Congo, Rutshuru, V-1937, J. Ghesquière, 4521 / R. Dét., C, 3679 / Barombiella , piceobasalis, m., V.
