Neobarombiella susannae sp. n.
( Figs 36, 181–184)
Etymology. Named after Susanne Schöler, Helmut Bolz’s girl-friend.
Total length. 3.85–4.40 mm (mean: 4.11 mm) (n=12).
Head. Frons and vertex brownish-yellow, labrum, labial and maxillary palpi brown. Antenna very long, slender, and brownish-yellow, becoming darker towards apex ( Fig. 181), third antennomere very elongate, length of second to third antennomere 0.50–0.55 (mean: 0.51), length of third to fourth antennomere 0.67–0.80 (mean: 0.74) ( Fig. 183). Eyes large ( Fig. 181), width of eye to interocular distance 0.46–0.52 (mean: 0.48).
Thorax. Pronotum yellowish-brown; small and strongly trapezoidal; pronotal width 1.30–1.46 mm (mean: 1.40 mm), pronotal length 0.56–0.66 mm (mean: 0.62 mm), and pronotal length to width 0.40–0.46 (mean: 0.44). Elytron yellow with broad black sutural and more slender outer elytral margins in about 80% of specimens studied, rest with very narrow and sharply delimited sutural and elytral margins; punctuation very coarse and dark ( Fig. 181); elytral length 2.95–3.35 mm (mean: 3.20 mm), elytral width 2.40–2.60 mm (mean: 2.53 mm), and broad with maximal width of both elytra to length of elytron 0.76–0.81 (mean: 0.79). Meso- and metathorax brown or brownish-black; legs entirely yellow; length of basi-metatarsus to metatibia 0.46–0.47 (mean: 0.47).
Abdomen. Entirely yellowish-brown or brown.
Male genitalia. Median lobe long, slender, straight and parallel-sided in ventral view, apical section rounded with small V-shaped incision between two rows of small sclerotized teeth ( Fig. 182a); lacking prominent sclerotized structures in lateral view ( Fig 182c); endophallic brush protruding slightly from median lobe, lacking distinct spiculae ( Fig 182).
Diagnosis. Neobarombiella susannae sp. n. is characterised by its coarsely punctuated yellow elytron with black elytral and sutural margins; short second antennomere, but the rest very enlongate; and its large, protruding eyes. Most similar in elytral colouring is N. nigrosuturalis sp. n., but this species has much shorter and thicker antennomeres, length of second to third antennomere 0.86–1.00 ( N. susannae sp. n. in 0.50–0.55) ( Figs 175, 183); and more slender elytra, maximal width of both elytra to length of elytron 0.64–0.71 (( 0.76–0.81 in N. susannae sp. n.), ( Figs 173, 181). Neobarombiella fassbenderi sp. n. has the same broad elytron as N. susannae sp. n., but they are brown instead of yellow, with narrow lateral and sutural margins, and much smaller eyes, width of eye to interocular distance N. fassbenderi sp. n. 0.64-0.75 (0.46–0.52 in N. susannae sp. n.),( Figs 145, 181).
Distribution. Recorded from the Ivory Coast and the Guineo-Congolian forest region, including Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea and the Democratic Republic of the Congo ( Fig. 36).
