Macroglenes nigroclypeatus Amerling & Kirchner, 1860 View in CoL nomen dubium
Macroglenes nigroclypeatus Amerling & Kirchner, 1860 View in CoL ; Kirchner, 1860: 72.
Comments. Macroglenes nigroclypeatus may not belong to Macroglenes or even Pteromalidae . It is not absolutely clear from Kirchner’s very brief description, but the details of its biology (reared from ‘Larven der Kohlraupe’, i.e. caterpillars of lepidopterans attacking cabbage, e.g. Pieris or Mamestra ) suggests that it may be an eulophid, perhaps a Melittobia , because species of Melittobia resemble Macroglenes and are known to attack these hosts. According to Dr. Jan Macek (NMPC) the original specimens, if they still exist, may be scattered throughout Bouček’s collection in NMPC, and thus be very difficult to find. Until they are eventually found I treat M. nigroclypeatus as a nomen dubium.
