Neotype: 1 ♂. Julida : Parajulidae / Iulus venustus Wood / M NEOTYPE / Sig. Shelley, 2001 // IL, Franklin Co., West Frankfort/ 4-5 April 1947, W. P. Carlisle/ under boards, rocks // FSCA 00070720.

Conservation status: Good condition; in 75% EtOH; gonopodia in microvial.

Additional notes: Originally described as Iulus venustus Wood, 1864 , and subsequently given the new combination Oriulus venustus ( Wood, 1864) by Chamberlin & Hoffman (1958).
