Discussion. This is a Chattian species from the Mainz Basin in Germany. Kadolsky (1995: 16) treated it as a subspecies of Mesohalina margaritacea ( Brocchi, 1814) and proposed a relation with Mesohalina margaritacea laevimargaritacea ( Sacco, 1895) from Italy [note that Cerithium submargaritaceum is preoccupied by d’Orbigny, 1850; 419]. At least the Paratethyan records are varieties of Mesohalina margaritacea ( Brocchi, 1814) .
